CNOOC passes Golden Eagle production milestone

CNOOC International celebrated a milestone in the production of its Golden Eagle asset following a refill campaign earlier this year.

In June, China’s NOC, formerly Nexen, completed the Four Wells Campaign and released a new video to celebrate the work that has so far produced enough energy to heat and power nearly 500,000 homes in the UK for one year.

The Golden Eagle platform operated by CNOOC is located approximately 70 miles northeast of Aberdeen and produced the first oil in October 2014.

The fourth and last well of the campaign was put online in June 2021, after starting work in August 2020.

CNOOC said the campaign saw more than nine miles of drilling without HSE incidents to report. It was delivered 26 days ahead of schedule and £ 12million under budget, the operator added.

The four wells, located in the central area of the field, exceeded underground expectations and added significant production, CNOOC said at the time.

CNOOC is the operational partner of Golden Eagle (36.54%), Suncor Energy UK Limited (26.69%), NEO Energy Production UK Limited (31.56%) and ONE-Dyas UK Limited (5.21%) holding also participations in the field and its installations.

In June, EnQuest announced that it had secured a new £ 530million loan facility that would allow it to complete the purchase of Suncor’s stake in the field for £ 240million.
