Ed Sheeran ‘Almost Killed’ Elton John While Filming Christmas Music Video

  • Ed Sheeran told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that he “almost killed” Elton John with a bell.
  • Sheeran said the near miss happened while filming the music video for their new song, “Merry Christmas.”
  • Sheeran said that when they filmed him kicking the bell, the bell flew over John’s head.

Ed Sheeran told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that he “almost killed” Elton John with a bell while filming the music video for their new Christmas song.

Sheeran and John performed as a duet on “Merry Christmas,” which was released last week. For the clip, which was released the same day, the duo parodied several classic Christmas clips such as “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, “Merry Christmas Everyone” by Shakin ‘Stevens and “Last Christmas” by Wham !. The video also referred to Sheeran’s own song, “Perfect.”

In the interview with Lowe published on Friday, the “Bad Habits” singer spoke of working with John when he recalled that he had almost seriously injured the 74-year-old singer.

Sheeran said, “Oh, mate. I almost killed him with a bell on the video.”

“I’m dressed as a sexy Santa Claus and throwing a gift, but the gift was covered with a big metal bell,” Sheeran continued.

“I showed her the footage today because we slowed her down and the bell went past her head and allegedly cracked her head. Oh my God, the horror that ran through my body when she was flying in the air. “

“Merry Christmas” marks Sheeran’s first Christmas record, while John is, of course, already known for his 1990 Christmas classic, “Step Into Christmas”.

In October, John called Sheeran a “loudmouth” for revealing their collaboration too soon.

“Yeah, he let the cat out of the bag, didn’t he,” John told NME. “I swore to keep it a secret, then Bigmouthed Sheeran is going to Holland! It’s supposed to come out – we haven’t finished it yet, so there’s still work to be done.” The pair aim for the song to be number one for Christmas this year.
