PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A new venture that aims to provide opportunities for Port Arthur youth and create content that will put Southeast Texas on the map is taking the community by storm.

A video production company has moved to downtown Port Arthur. Nerd Family Productions has moved into The Press Building, and education is central to its mission.

Niq Hunter is the CEO and Founder of Nerd Family Productions and is passionate about technology. The entrepreneur works to inspire children in the Port Arthur community.

“It started in 2019,” Hunter said. “I was selling cars and making videos about cars, then I started making videos for other people, and it went from there.”

The video production company was born in Beaumont and made waves in Southeast Texas. The team is comprised primarily of local talent, which made promoting the new space in Port Arthur ideal.

“With the shift that Port Arthur has made, as a conscious shift, towards creating a creator economy, opening up this place for film studios and video production companies, and inviting Hollywood coming here to southeast Texas, we knew this could definitely be a place where we could thrive,” Hunter said.

Some Port Arthur residents are excited about the opportunities the company could provide for local children.

“They can come in and out in the street,” said Port Arthur resident Margaret Love. “[It will] keep them indoors where they can do things with their minds, be creative and make sure they stay 100% focused.”

Teaching young people how to edit videos and commercials and providing them with hands-on experience is what future partnerships are all about, and it’s something Hunter is proud of.

“If I had had a camera in my hands, if I had had the chance,” Hunter said. “Okay, I know they make money making videos. And if I could figure out how to make a career out of it, my life would be completely different. So we just want to give that opportunity.

Nerd Family Productions is looking to hire 15 new employees to fill the reels.
