Disney’s latest animated offerings have produced a string of box office hits. Whether they are from Pixar or Walt Disney Animation, films like Forward, Luca, and Raya and the last dragon received favorable reactions from fans and critics alike. Then, as first reported by DiscussingFilm, Walt Disney Animations Studios brought in Don Hall to run their next business.
Don Hall is best known for co-directing films like Winnie the Pooh, Great hero 6, and Moana. More recently, however, Hall has served as director of Raya and the last dragon. His next Disney project will join with Qui Nguyen, who is on board to write the screenplay. Additionally, Frozen II Walt Disney Animation Studios Director and Creative Director Jennifer Lee will be the executive producer of the film. In addition, Roy Conli (Tangled) will also produce. The film is currently on track for release on November 23, 2022.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, the next untitled animated feature film will follow Ethan, a young biracial teenager (half white, half black). The character descriptions emphasize his tendency to be wise without being particularly harsh. As of this writing, the studio is looking to recruit a voice actor who can display a fun and likable sound with the ability to demonstrate an emotional side as well.
The latest project continues Disney’s initiative to create more diverse and inclusive stories. Marginalized groups around the world are starting to see themselves portrayed onscreen, and an animated story following a typical biracial teenager will resonate with large audiences. The next step for Walt Disney Animation is that of Byron Howard and Jared Bush Encanto, a story set in Colombia with original songs by In the heights designer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
